There is something else going on in the flight training and aviation industry. Everyday, I am hearing about new training facilities opening in Canada for pilots. That is some of the larger news in the aviation industry, however, the vast research in aviation in the past 30 years has really erupted a surge in excitement for flight simulator games. There are also plenty of claims that pilots are actually doing their rookie flying exercises on the newest flight simulator; Pro Flight Simulator.

Let’s take a step back in history, Apple II constructed the very first flight training console in the AFS II; this DOS program had a few dials and readings on it with a background that resembled the asteroids game for the ATARI. Then, we saw a surge in dinky java program on daily gaming sites such as MiniClip and AddictingGames. Now, they are getting serious!

I have been playing MS and online flight sim games for over fifteen years now. I was there when Microsoft released the first flight simulator and I had to buy a new computer to run it! Then when I finally was able to get the the game, the graphics were so far behind its time, it was just a colossal waste of time in the end. I saw great improvements in MS FSX 2004 and the new updates were great, but nothing compared to the services and simulation experience offered in this new Pro Flight Simulator Package.

I know there are a lot of claims about how this game is a ripoff of Flight Pro Simulator, but the truth is that, it is simply an updated version of the product with more bells and whistles. I also bought the game; or simulator I should say: I played it, and played it, and just could not stop playing it! My wife actually broke the CD in half and that was the end of that; haha! I couldn’t get away from it, I was amazed by the amazing detail and accuracy in cockpit features, the Google Maps archives, and the overall playability, realism, and accuracy of the controls. It’s amazing I flew across the Atlantic, I landed in LAX and flew over my own house for crying out loud!

Pro Flight Simulator (2009) VS. Microsoft Flight Sim X (2004)

Now, in this area of my article, I am not trying to step on any toes! I am just going to point out a few facts about these two products.

The real thing to take into consideration is that these are two totally different areas. Don’t get me wrong, real flight simulation and flight simulation games are becoming much more similar, but flight simulators offer a much more dynamic flight experience. Microsoft has added several features to the 2004 edition of their flight sim, but it’s still ages behind Pro Flight Simulator.
