Mage Leveling Guide – Fire Or Frost Talents?

Hi and welcome to my WoW leveling article about Mages and their talent Trees. If you want to level a Mage and are still unsure which spec to use, this mage leveling guide is for you.

First of all let’s take a look at the frost build. Which are the strengths and weaknesses?

The talent spec is weak if you fight against single opponents. Just using the tiny frostbolt spell will not help you to level any faster. If this is your play-style I do not recommend you to chose the Frost leveling build.

However, if you are ready to fight against dozens of mobs at the same time, the frost tree really shines. Frost Nova is a great way to bind targets to the ground and cast spells from afar. Even the survivability is better if you decide to go for the Frost talents and you will die less often.

Now, what about fire? It’s a lot easier to use since you will only fight against one or two targets. The DPS against single targets rocks! You can deal huge burst damage and knock your target down in a matter of seconds. If you like this easy play-style, the Fire talent spec is for you.

I have to mention hat it focuses less on survivabilty. If the mob comes clost to you it will hit you and you can’t do much about it. That’s what the Fire tree is weak at. You are forced to only engage in combat against one enemy at a time.

Now, which one is better? The Frost build as any serious mage leveling guide will tell you! To kill off many mobs at the same time is exactly the core skill you need to complete quests as fast as possible.

You just need a short training to be able to pull off this leveling tactic. Ride around on your mount to pull a few enemies. Sit off, hit Frost Nova and freeze them all. Blink away and then wrack havoc on them using Blizzard and Cone of Cold. If one or more of the monsters survive the first assault just freeze them and repeat the process.
